The sixth part of LPT connects Tsagarada, which is the larger center of eastern Pelion, with Milies, the heartland of agricultural activities and depot of the Long Pelion Trail route.
This old path, connecting the two agricultural hotspots of Pelion, follows the shortest and easiest route. It counts as a perfect hike for relaxing after the previous day’s part which is much more demanding and long. It follows the gentle slopes of mild hills and valleys.

THE SETTLEMENTS
Tsagarada
Tsagarada is a quite expanded village which consists mainly of four smaller settlements. These distinct neighborhoods are named after the church which looms in their center: Agii Taxiarches, Agia Paraskevi, Agios Stefanos and Agia Kyriaki. Among them, Agios Stefanos is the oldest one, built in 1746.
The most visited beaches, adjacent to the settlement, are the beach of Fakistra, Karavostasia and Mylopotamos, which combine the mountainous and coastal scenery with exceptional beauty.
There are 784 inhabitants and the village of Tsagarada belongs to the municipality of Zagora-Mouresi.
Another hidden gem of the area is the Achilopoulios Commercial School of Tsagarada, founded in 1865 with the contribution of Achilopoulou brothers. The school used to accept students of business studies from all over the country. The building was partially destroyed after the earthquake of 1955 but it was fully renovated in 2001. Today, it hosts the cultural organization of the municipality while it’s also a reception hall for different educational and cultural activities.
The visitor can also visit Nanopoulios School, built in the beginning of the 20th century and with the financial support of Nikolaos Nanopoulos. It used to serve as a secondary school for financial studies, whereas today it hosts the primary school of Tsagarada and other smaller villages.
It’s worth a visit to the stone single arch bridge which used to connect Tsagarada with Xourichti above the stream of Milopotamos. This fine and impressive construction was only recently collapsed.
Milies
The lively village of Milies is located at an altitude of 400m, well-protected from the pirates coming from the sea. It has 636 inhabitants and many visitors since the settlement is organized and famous for its cozy and charming atmosphere. Moreover, it has long cultural development and history. It’s worth a visit to the historical library, one of the oldest in the country, which used to be an educational school called “Psichi Akos”, meaning “spirit healing”. It was built in 1814 with the sponsorship of the scholars Anthimos Gazis, Danihl Filippidis and Grigorios Konstantas.
One of the most preferable activities of the visitors in is the train route which starts from Lechonia and ends at Milies. The train uses the old engine but it’s very well-maintain and offers an enjoyable experience. The length of the trip is 16km with two stops.
Tips
This is a short and enjoyable hiking part of LPT, where we cross beautiful sceneries of Mediterranean bush lands and trees, providing plenty of shade during the hike.
In the village of Milies we find many tourism services of high quality.
Warnings
Despite the fact that we hike only at low altitude, it’s quite likely that we find fog and bad weather. Be equipped with the right weather-appropriate clothing.
The bridge of Tsagarada, along the trail, was recently collapsed. Thus, we need to cross the river. However, the water level is usually low and we face no technical difficulties.
